Family Portraits

I met this family at our ECE Car Show at Ted Watkins Park in 2024. The boy went to our Head Start in Koreatown and then their daughter went to the Western Site when they moved to South LA. In my experience, young children will give you about 15 minutes to make a family portrait. Despite the heat and the beckoning playground, they played with me and we got this fun photo. I filled their faces with a little light from my Godox 600 and a ParaSnap 38". I was using a 50mm prime lens and so had to use a neutral density filter to keep the f-stop wide open. That’s why there’s a slight blue cast. But the energy and shape of the family is there.

Every time I run into the family at CII events the little girl is so excited to see me. The dad laughs at how friends have seen this photo on billboards. Love to show Latino families in a positive light.
