The Inspiration
My favorite photographers are Robert Doisneau and Louis Carlos Bernal. Doisneau for his sense of humor, beauty, and that he took pictures of Paris in black and white. Louis Carlos did environmental portraits of Mexican American families in the 70s midwest. They look like my family's grainy, out of focus photos but done by an artist. When I discovered him, I realized this is what I was trying to do with my work. Both were capturing people in their natural state but they also made shit up and directed the people in their photos. Who are we kidding about “capturing the moment,” the photo has to look good.
